FAQ

What's the difference between Swedish and deep tissue massage?

Swedish massage is a gentle, relaxing technique that uses long, flowing strokes, kneading, and circular movements on the topmost layers of muscles. It’s designed to promote relaxation, improve circulation, and relieve minor tension. The pressure is typically light to moderate, making it ideal for stress relief and overall wellness.

Deep tissue massage uses slower, more deliberate strokes to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It focuses on releasing chronic muscle tension, knots, and adhesions. The pressure is firmer and may cause some discomfort during treatment, but it’s effective for addressing specific problem areas, chronic pain, and injury recovery.

Key differences:

  • Pressure: Swedish is lighter; deep tissue is firmer

  • Purpose: Swedish focuses on relaxation; deep tissue targets specific issues

  • Technique: Swedish uses flowing strokes; deep tissue uses slower, concentrated pressure

  • Experience: Swedish is generally comfortable throughout; deep tissue may involve some temporary discomfort

Your therapist will discuss prior to your massage appointment to adjust the pressure and combine techniques based on your preferences and needs.

How often should I get a massage?

The frequency depends on your goals and lifestyle. For stress relief and relaxation, many clients find a massage every 4-8 weeks to be beneficial. For injury recovery, chronic pain, or muscle tension, weekly sessions may provide the best results. Your therapist can help create a schedule tailored to your needs.

Do you offer couples massage?

While we don’t offer traditional couples massage in the same room, we do have an array of holistic modalities where you can arrive together and enjoy a rejuvenating wellness experience together. You can book consecutive appointments or coordinate your visits to enjoy complementary treatments that support both of your wellness goals.

Contact us to discuss how we can create a personalized experience that works for both of you – whether that’s back-to-back massage sessions, coordinated infrared sauna and salt booth experiences, or other wellness combinations.

Does massage therapy hurt?

Massage Therapy should never be painful. Some techniques may create mild discomfort when working on tight muscles, but overall, sessions are meant to feel soothing and restorative. Always communicate with your therapist so they can adjust pressure and techniques to your comfort level.

Can massage help with chronic pain or injuries?

Yes, massage therapy can help manage chronic pain and support recovery from injuries. It improves circulation, reduces muscle tension, and promotes relaxation, which can ease discomfort and enhance the body’s natural healing process.
